At BDO, we embrace true flexibility. We are looking for experienced lawyers who are interested in balancing their work commitments with flexible work arrangements. We are open to considering a range of flexible work options (including part time or job sharing) designed to help you balance your professional and personal life.

Although we encourage our staff to spend at least some of their days working from their local BDO office, our IT systems mean that we can support applications from candidates who need to work from home most of the time due to their personal circumstances.

We encourage applicants who are seeking to return to work (or operate) in a more flexible manner to apply.

Due to growth within the firm, BDO’s in-house legal team are looking to recruit experienced lawyers who want the freedom to define their own success. We are looking for commercial lawyers to provide practical advice and work autonomously as well as part of the broader legal team.

Say goodbye to billable hours and hello to a true-work life balance!

We are very open to discussing the ability to:

Have flexible start and finish times (with flexibility to change as suits you)

Attend the office only if (and when) it suits you (for example if you wish to enjoy the social benefits of working from your local BDO office on a particular day, without expectation to do so)

How your impact will be felt

Working with the General Counsel, Head of Legal and the legal team, you will have experience in commercial and corporate law that allows you to provide legal and strategic advice to your colleagues in the business. Prior inhouse experience is not a pre-requisite to this role.

You will be involved in a variety of interesting and challenging matters and your responsibilities will include: -

Advising on and drafting commercial and client contracts (both external terms and BDO terms).

Advising on other legal agreements including non-disclosure agreements

Providing ad hoc legal advice across the firm

Assisting with legal, regulatory and compliance matters

Advising on employment law matters

Assisting with investigations, disputes and litigation (including briefing external lawyers where required)

Supporting the firm’s legal frameworks (e.g. review of policies & procedures, providing legal training)

Supporting special projects and initiatives across the firm

Development of legal knowledge resources and streamlining work processes in the legal team

Do you have the following?

You enjoy working in a collaborative environment and have solid legal skills and commercial acumen as well as the following:

Bachelor of Laws and admitted to practice in an Australian State or Territory

Minimum 4 years PQE

Demonstrated commercial and corporate experience

Employment law, litigation and regulatory (e.g. ASIC) experience will be highly considered, although not essential

Experience in applying those skills to achieve practical solutions for the business, appropriately balancing legal risk with commercial objectives

A mindset of innovation and change: the ability to develop ideas, challenging the status quo as appropriate, and consulting with others to produce viable commercial solutions

High developed communication and well-rounded interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and confidence of colleagues and stakeholders across different levels and locations.

Agile and adaptable, able to manage competing priorities and capable of managing legal matters of all sizes and levels of complexity.

Prior inhouse experience is not a pre-requisite to this role.
