About the position

The Scots College has an exciting opportunity available for an exceptional and experienced Head of Careers. The Head of Careers will be responsible for the development and management of the Scots Careers Centre across its range of strategic and operational activities. They will act in accordance with the current strategy, framework and mission of the College and continuously move the program forward.
The successful applicant will develop and maintain programs and services that support the work of the Careers Centre along with working with students and staff to ensure that critical 21st century skills are being addressed and developed.
The Head of Careers will assist students to undertake the process of career planning, including:
developing their employability;
clarifying their own interests, values, skills and abilities; identifying appropriate opportunities;
making informed career choices; and
achieving their objectives both immediately after graduation and thereafter.
The position is full-time commencing in January 2024. Visa sponsorship is available for this position with the length of the contract dependent on working rights.
Essential to this role
A postgraduate degree related to career services for young people or equivalent
A professional qualification/recognition in careers guidance or equivalent
Over six (6) years’ experience in a middle management role in a careers service or 10 years’ experience working in industry (e.g. business, education) or university in a cognate field or blend of career/industry/higher education
In-depth understanding of higher and further education and the study/employment opportunities for Year 12 graduates
In-depth understanding of industry and the development of the skills required by employers
advise students on CVs, cover letters and interviews and hold mock interviews and application form reviews
Experience in the use of information and communication technologies in support of careers service provision including develop web-based materials for use by students and online career learning resources
Experience in organising employer-recruitment visits, careers fairs and other events
An ability to review, simplify, and improve operational processes
Excellent interpersonal skills, with abilities to motivate others, to work in teams and to interact with staff at all levels within the College, and with employers and potential partners
High-level analytical skills
High-level oral and written communication and presentation skills
A client-focus and a commitment to delivering the highest standard of service to all students, parents, carers and staff
An aptitude for seeing the larger picture and for being able to deal with complex matters within a wider context
An aptitude for convincing others to garner support and achieve objectives.
